Company Bio - Therma flow was founded in 1986 by partners Ed Hill, and Robert Suffredni.  The Everhot line was acquired in 1990 and continues to provided value via it’s timeless combination of state of the art engineering and initiative design.

Therma-flow/ Everhot products are produced at their company headquarters few miles away from down town Boston Mass. I enjoy buying them, because I know I’m supporting American business men and women.   We are  about 100 miles from where the water heaters are manufactured.

The Therma flow indirect water heater is thermally wrapped so it easily maintains its desired temperature with minimal standing heat loss. Each of the Thema flow-Everhot inner tank is also glass lined which insures reliable and long lasting performance.

Therma flow – Everhot indirect water heaters are designed to serve a small and large hot water demands. The indirect hot water heater only pulls hot water away from the boiler and into it’s self as demanded.   You will never run out of hot water with a Thermaflow-everhot indirect water heater, and a functioning boiler.

The Therma flow indirect water heater heats water by capturing heat from your boiler.  It’s called an indirect water heater, because your boiler does all the heating of the water, the therma flow stores the hot water at a desired temperature.

Selecting a Combination Water and Space Heating System

Integrated or combination water and space heating systems usually cost more than a separate water heater and furnace or boiler, but installation and maintenance costs may be less. For example, you won’t need multiple utility hook-ups since there’s one source of heat. There also aren’t as many moving parts to maintain or service. Some of these high efficiency systems may also provide you with lower utility costs.

Most combination water and space heating systems are usually designed for new construction. However, there are some retrofit units available that can work with an existing water heater.

When selecting a system, you need to consider its size. The sizing of a combination system involves some different calculations than those used for sizing a separate water heating or space heating system. It’s best left to a qualified plumbing and heating contractor.  Some plumbing supply stores provide “heat loss” experts, he or she will determine the size of system you need based on their calculations (at no – or very low cost) to you.

To determine the energy efficiency of a combination water and space heating system, use its combined appliance efficiency rating (CAE). The higher the number, the more energy efficient. Combination appliance efficiency ratings vary from 0.59 to 0.90.

How Tankless Coil and Indirect Water Heaters work.

Tankless coil and indirect water heaters use a home’s space heating system to heat water. They’re part of what’s called integrated or combination water and space heating systems.

How They Work

A tankless coil water heater uses a heating coil or heat exchanger installed in a main furnace or boiler. Whenever a hot water faucet is turned on, the water flows through the heat exchanger. These water heaters provide hot water on demand without a tank, like a  Tankless water heater, but because they rely on the furnace or boiler to heat the water directly, tankless coil water heaters work most efficiently during cold months when the heating system is used regularly. That’s why they can be an inefficient choice for many homes, especially for those in warmer climates.

Indirect water heaters offer a more efficient choice for most homes, even though they require a storage tank. An indirect water heater uses the main furnace or boiler to heat a fluid that’s circulated through a heat exchanger in the storage tank. The energy stored by the water tank allows the furnace to turn off and on less often, which saves energy. Therefore, an indirect water heater is used with a high-efficiency boiler and well-insulated tank can be the least expensive means of providing hot water.

Indirect systems can be fired by gas, oil, propane, electric, solar energy, or a combination of any of these. Tankless systems are typically electric or gas-fired. Also, these integrated or combination water heating systems not only can work with forced air systems but also with hydronic or radiant floor heating systems.

Tankless Coil and Indirect Water Heaters.A home’s space heating system can also be used to heat water. Two types of water heaters that use this system are tankless coil and indirect. No separate storage tank is needed in the tankless coil water heater because water is heated directly inside the boiler within a separate chamber of the heating system. The water flows through a heat exchanger in the boiler whenever a hot water faucet is turned on. During colder months, the tankless coil works well because the heating system is used regularly. However, the system is less efficient during warmer months and in warmer climates when the boiler is used less frequently.

A separate storage tank is required with an indirect water heater. Like the tankless coil, the indirect water heater circulates water through a heat exchanger in the boiler. But this heated water then flows to an insulated storage tank. Because the boiler does not need to operate frequently, this system is more efficient than the tankless coil. In fact, when an indirect water heater is used with a highly efficient boiler, the combination may provide one of the least expensive methods of water heating.

Over time indirect water tanks need to be replaced like anything else.
Glass lined storage tanks can last 10-12 years and cost about as much large traditional water heaters 500- 700 dollars.  Stainless steal lined storage tanks can last 20-30+  years, and cost some whaere between 900- 1,200 dollars some brands such as superstor come with long term warranties.
