Prices you can expect your plumber to pay.

in Tips And Suggestions, Traditional Gas, Electric, & Oil fired Water Heaters

Prices varies throughout the country, but I can tell you from my experience what prices I pay in the North East on  traditional tank type water heaters.    AO Smith, Rheem, and State water heaters are your most popular prices and their all very close in price.

Popular Water Heaters

Popular Water Heaters

90% of the houses, apartments, condos in America have either a 40 or 50 gallon hot water heaters.

I pay between  $325- $385 for my 40 & 50 gallon electric hot water heaters.
I pay between $440- $485 for my 40 & 50 gallon natural gas water heaters.
I pay around $525 for a 50 gallon short.

Now what I pay is Not what you will pay.  I buy dozens of water heaters a month, have personal relationships with store owners, and pay my bills one time.
When trying to figure out the total price your new water heater is going to cost you don’t forget about tax which will be another 20-45 dollars, and the other parts needed with your new water heater installation.  Then you have the labor.

All three companies State, Rheem, and AO Smith offer 30, 40, 50, 75, 80 gallon water heaters, and their prices only variry  around 20-40 dollars  between all three companies prices on the same sized tank.  (at least where I’m located in CT)

Please note:  I  go to large plumbing supply stores in the North East.  I also get the lowest prices available due to the amount of water heaters I purchase every year.

If you are a home owner you can expect to pay more.  Maybe as much as 25% more, and you may not even be able to buy one without a contracting license.  Depending on where you live, and what size the store is will drastically dictate the price of you new hot water heater too.   For example you may not have a plumbing supply house near you, or if you do it  may not sell all that many heaters.   Water heaters take up lots of space at plumbing stores, so if the store is small the store  or doesn’t  sell many water heaters they won’t be carrying as many, and will need to charge much  more for each heater.

My advice is to call your local plumbing supply store.  When someone answers ask for help at the plumbing counter. Then when you get to the guy at the “counter”.  ask him for a price on the heater you need, (know what u need before you call!) and when he tells you the price then ask. “Is this the contractor price?”  If they say yes, you have a good idea what the lowest price is the store can offer.  If they say no, ask them what the contractors price is.  Might as well ask.  Or you could say, “my cousin is a licensed plumber from out of town, helping my out because money is tight, and I need to know how much cash to give him”   Get the right price, then contact your plumber!    J-
