In all honesty installing a traditional electric hot water heater is pretty easy to do.
Installing a gas hot water heater is pretty easy too, (as long as the new & old heaters gas controls are the exact same height, or their is a flexible gas line present.)

Assuming you have the tools, some basic wiring skills, and and have soldered copper pipe before it’s pretty easy.
The thing is you if your missing even one of the three don’t try. Most likely if you have to ask you probably shouldn’t in the first place. Any decent plumber can do the job for a few hundred bucks labor, why risk a potential big problem? That’s my advice. J-
