Do not ever plug the relief valve!!

in Gas, Electric, & Oil Tank Types, Safety topics

I was surprised how much power and destruction a water heater could produce.
They video created by the show Mythbusters.  Check it out.

Don’t ever plug any relief valve!!!  It’s job is to relieve pressure, that’s what it’s intended to do.  A leaking relief valve may be preforming  just like it is suppose to, and their is a larger problem in the tank it’s self.   This goes for all relief valves, water heaters, storage tanks, boilers, etc.   If you have a leaking relief valve call a plumber and have it replaced.  Never ever plug the valve to stop a leak!  If you see a Brass relief valve plugged with any kind of “plug” in it,  or a large amount of corrosion on or around the relief valve call a plumber and have it checked out/ replaced asap.
